Skin Damages, Their Prevention And Cure

Exposure to ultra violet rays has a profound effect on the skin causing skin cancer, premature aging and many other undesirable changes. With prolonged exposure to ultra violet rays texture of the skin changes dramatically with it becoming tanned and coarse. It also damages the skin causing fine wrinkles, skin tearing and dark spots or patches. The affected areas other than your face include back of the neck, forearms and back of the hands.

The most noticeable changes due to excessive exposure to the sun is the changes in the skin color making it patchy. These are commonly known as the brown spots and can be seen on the upper back, arms and shoulders and arms. When the skin is exposed to sun the UV rays break down the collagen and elastin making the skin rough and spots prone due to excess melanin. It mainly occurs in adults who are easily prone to sun burn and fail to tan. Apart from exposure to sun there are other factors that cause these spots like pollution, stress, fatty foods, smoking and improper skin care.

There are various cosmetic products available today to treat the sun spots or diminish the appearance. Common ingredients in the precuts treating skin spots are: hydroxy acid, glycolic acid, Retin A, alpha hydroxyl acids, beta hydroxyl acid, salycilic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, green tea, aloe vera, hydroquinone, kojic acid, antioxidants. But doctors today suggest that prevention is better than cure. Hence one should avoid exposure to sunlight, wear sun protective clothing and regular application of sunscreen twice a day.
